Samcheong-dong is a dong, neighbourhood of Jongno-gu in Seoul, South Korea.

It lies north of Jongno and east of Gyeongbokgung. 

 

This hilly neighborhood is characterized by numerous small art galleries, shops, and restaurants.

Visitors to the area can see restored hanok, Korean traditional-style houses.

The Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea is located here.

It is also home to several foreign government offices including the Vietnamese consulate.

Tteokbokki 떡볶이 is a popular Korean snack food made from soft rice cake,

 

fish cake and sweet redchili sauce.teokbokki was also a part of  Korean royal court cuisine in

 

the Joseon dynasty. While the modern version of tteokbokki is red and spicy, the original version was

 

 brown and plain. It was called "gungjung tteokbokki , Palace Tteokbokki. Just like the name implies,

 

 gunjeon tteokbokki was a main example of Korean haute cuisine. It was mainly composed with a

 

 combination of tteok, meat, vegetables and different kinds of seasoning. After the introduction of

 

gochujang (Korean spicy paste made of chili peppers) during the Joseon dynasty, tteokbokki became

 

 red and spicy. It is believed that the main transition from plain to spicy tteokbokki occurred during

 

 the 1950s after the independence of Korea. In modern days, most of the tteokbokki sold in street

 

vendors is red and spicy.

This was an interesting place. Just off the main street it is easy to find. The concept is a hot iron

plate where the food is cooked and brought to the table to finish.

Finished cooking to my liking at the table so the rib eye steak came out perfectly.

Wait staff were pleasant and friendly.

The dining room was filled with a mix of people on dates, spouses and smaller groups
